The nations weather (AP)

Weather Underground Forecast for Thursday, November 03, 2011.

The storm system that brought significant precipitation to the Central Plains will advance eastward into the Mid-Mississippi and Ohio Valleys on Thursday. Warm moisture from the Gulf of Mexico feeding into the system will aid in producing moderate showers with periods of heavy rainfall near the system through the day. Gusty winds and thunderstorms will also accompany the system as it moves through the Eastern Valleys. An associated cold front will bring similar unsettled weather conditions to areas south of the system as it moves through the Lower Mississippi Valley and into the Southeast. To the north, light to moderate showers will form near another associated front that will extend across the Ohio Valley through the Lower Great Lakes. Moderate to heavy precipitation will reach parts of the Central and Southern Appalachians by Thursday night, while lighter showers move into the Northeast. Expect an abrupt temperature drop with the passing of this system.

In the West, a cold front will bring rain and high elevation snow to the Pacific Northwest Wednesday night through Thursday morning. Limited moisture and onshore flow will hinder significant snow accumulations in the mountains and passes, thus expect snow totals to reach up to 5 inches. After the northern edge of this front passes Thursday morning, a cold trough of low pressure will sag southward and dig along the West Coast. This will continue showers and possibly thunderstorms in the Pacific Northwest and northwestern California. The heaviest rain amounts will be confined to coastal areas. Temperatures in the Lower 48 states Wednesday have ranged from a morning low of -2 degrees at Yellowstone, Wyo. to a high of 91 degrees at McAllen, Texas
