ROYAL OAK, Mich. (AP) ? For his Michigan finale, Mitt Romney wanted Kid Rock.
The GOP presidential candidate, after all, begins and ends almost every event with Kid Rock's song "Born Free."
So Romney's people reached out to Kid Rock's people. The answer came back: The rocker-rapper, famous for songs like "Bawitdaba" and "Cowboy," would consider playing "Born Free" at Romney's last campaign rally before Tuesday's primary. But only if he could talk to Romney first.
The former Massachusetts governor landed in Michigan on Thursday, climbed into a black Suburban with two aides, and drove to Kid Rock's house in Clarkston, Mich., just northwest of Detroit.
"I asked him whether he might come here tonight," Romney explained Monday to the crowd gathered at the Royal Oak Music Theatre.
Romney got a grilling from the rocker for more than an hour, campaign aides said. Would he help the state of Michigan? Romney said he would. Would he help the city of Detroit? Kid Rock himself had just committed to help raise a $1 million for the struggling city's symphony. Romney said yes. And the singer born with the name Bob Ritchie pressed Romney about how he would support U.S. service members as president.
Romney left without an answer about the performance. The next day, he received an email: Kid Rock was in.
Monday night, after introductions from Michigan's lieutenant governor, attorney general and governor and from Romney's wife, Ann, the obviously buoyant candidate played warm-up act.
He gave his standard campaign speech and then announced: "I'm happy to introduce a son of Detroit, a friend, a guy who makes great music, who introduces me by DVD everywhere I go ? Kid Rock!"
Kid Rock performed the song ? "wild, like an untamed stallion ... I was born free" ? as the meticulously dressed Romney watched.
Then, Kid Rock immediately left the stage.
Additional numbers may have been problematic. Many of his hits are peppered with obscenities and references to drugs, alcohol and sex. Kid Rock himself has a bad-boy image, though he often mixes it with patriotism.
Romney, who's been emphasizing family values of late as he works to compete with socially conservative rival Rick Santorum, said later that he didn't worry about Kid Rock's mores.
"I think that he makes some pretty good music and I like listening to his music," Romney told Detroit radio station WXYT when he was asked if Kid Rock portrays values that people should emulate.
"And when I listen to the people who provide music I don't actually try to assess their personal family values," he said. "I listen to their music."

Home Prices in Wisconsin are Stabilizing
Amidst the turmoil and problems of the year, there was some good news about Wisconsin home values in the year 2011; prices have stabilized. Based on a year-end report conducted by the Wisconsin Realtors? Association (WRA), the number of homes sold was slightly better than for the year 2010. And the price drop from 2010 to 2011 has been minor, signaling that we may have found the bottom of the price bubble.
Not Unexpected
However, this trend is not a surprise to seasoned real estate agents. The Federal Homebuyer credit that was so popular during the year 2010 was projected to have a negative impact on the first six months of 2011. This prediction came true. Even more importantly, the latter half of 2011 saw a strong increase in home sales that were higher than the same point from 2010.
Small Signs of Economic Improvement
The best news is the fact that the number of homes selling has increased. While different parts of Wisconsin have seen varying degrees of improvement, the entire state has benefitted from improvements made in the economy. While government has shown a loss in jobs, the private sector is increasing enough in new jobs to offset the government loss. This has led to a drop in the total state unemployment number, down from 7.6% to 7.1%
Lower Prices Main Reason for More Sales
Obviously, when the price of goods drops it usually signals more buying from consumers. The same is true for homes across Wisconsin. Historically low mortgage rates, paired with lower home prices, have enabled more families to buy that first elusive home. While the average home price is roughly 25% to 30% lower today than it was in 2006, the recent trends are promising. Prices will rise with increased demand. As long as unemployment continues to drop and people continue to purchase homes, the prices will eventually rise again.
Everything moves in Cycles
Keep in mind that the state economy is like a giant organism. When something affects one part, another part is affected as well. Case in point, apartments are beginning to see a good recovery. A large number of people have chosen to rent a place for the short term while they make their plans to buy a home. As this trend continues, the price to rent an apartment or single family home will rise. When the price to rent becomes higher than the monthly payment on a typical mortgage, more people will look to purchase a home.
The last few years have been tough on a lot of people. Loss of jobs, drop in home prices and a general feeling of despair have been quite common. However, times are improving, if only slightly. Now is the time to get our financial houses in order and push forward to take advantage of the great home ownership opportunities that lie before us.

In yet another step in her apparent bid for sainthood, country music superstar Taylor Swift has invited 18-year-old leukemia patient Kevin McGuire to be her date to the Academy of Country Music Awards in April.

The invitation grew from a Facebook campaign launched by McGuire's sister, Victoria, who started up the Facebook page "Taylor Swift take KEVIN McGUIRE TO PROM!" to persuade the "Mean" songbird to attend McGuire's prom at Sterling High School prom in Somerdale, N.J.

Swift was unable to take up Victoria's invitation, but she went one better and invited him to the ACM Awards, which take place on April 1 at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas.
"Kevin, I'm so sorry but I won't be able to make it to your prom," Swift posted to the Facebook page Friday. "But I was wondering, the ACM Awards are coming up. Would you be my date? Love, Taylor"
Awww ... it's enough to even give Hannibal Lecter a lump in his throat -- and no, it wouldn't be a piece of one of his victims.
Swift is nominated for multiple ACM Awards this year, including Entertainer of the Year and Female Vocalist of the Year.

For this reason, it may be prudent to consider raising the coverage amounts in a policy when you are purchasing auto insurance.
For drivers in states that follow a no fault system, you will be required to carry two additional forms of coverage: uninsured motorist liability and personal injury protection insurance. Personal injury protection insurance provides money towards the cost of immediate medical attention you or your passengers may require. Uninsured motorist coverage will provide compensation for you if you happen to be struck by a hit and run motorist or by a driver who has no coverage for the costs of damages. Each different form of coverage can be beneficial to you in some manner. Education about your state's requirements will assist you in factoring what your needs are.

Rihanna And Chris Brown's Remixes: Critics Weigh In
With 'Birthday Cake' and 'Turn Up the Music' fresh in their minds, MTV News asks music journalists for their takes on the songs.

By now, you've already heard what fans and a domestic-abuse expert had to say about Rihanna and Chris Brown's controversial collaborations on new remixes of "Birthday Cake" and "Turn Up the Music." Chances are, you've probably formed your own opinion too.
But as the initial shock of the pair's reunion subsides, and both remixes begin to diffuse into the collective conscience, we're left with one rather important question: Beyond all the (very public) handwringing the songs have created, are they actually any good? Early opinions from critics have been lukewarm at best (and downright hostile at worst), mostly because it seems they have a difficult time separating their feelings about Brown — and his 2009 assault of Rihanna — from their feelings about the songs themselves. And really, you can't blame them. In a lot of ways, it's impossible not to view the "Cake" and "Music" remixes through the prism of the past three years.
Still, with opinions still being formed (and feelings still fresh), we reached out to some of our favorite music journos to get their take on the songs and Rihanna and Brown's unlikely collaboration. Here's what they had to say:
" 'Birthday Cake' was pretty much destined to be a smash when Talk That Talk was released with only a snippet of it. ... The 78-second bit of The-Dream-produced track inspired hosannas from members of the Rihanna Navy who couldn't wait for the full thing to be released. ... Putting Chris Brown on the [remix] (and having him sing 'I wanna f--- you right now,' which Rihanna sang on the fade-out of the TTT version, as his opening gambit) seems almost like overplaying her hand. Like, this song was going to be a big deal to her fans no matter what, so why add the controversy to it? Then again, the past three years of her career have, it seems, been about her taking control of her public image in a big way — from enacting revenge fantasies in 'Man Down' to singing about sex a lot — and adding Brown to a song about fetishistic sex is a way for her to do just that, to implicitly flip off people who she sees as paternalistic or overbearing while engaging in what she calls 'chiefin'.' Every gossip item about the two of them getting back together or hanging out, every angry/sad/exulting blog post, every public tweet they direct to one another when presumably they could just DM back and forth, keeps them — and the songs — in the news. Meanwhile, Brown's song and Rihanna's contribution to it are both pretty bland, a 'Party Rock Anthem' with no shuffling and even less whimsy. At one point, Rihanna does the phrase 'I love you,' which will no doubt get tongues wagging. I am pretty much grossed out by the whole thing, to be honest." — Maura Johnston, Village Voice
"The remixes aren't terrible, and that's as much as I'll say at risk of saying something positive about Chris Brown. ... The most important thing to remember is that if you have a problem with these two teaming up: Don't blame Rihanna. Blame the ravenous, unscrupulous, money-starved record industry for being complacent through this entire event. The whole machine is falling apart, so everyone — artists like Ludacris and Justin Bieber, their labels and managers, magazines like Vibe who put Chris Brown on the cover, awards shows like the Grammys, TV networks who play Chris Brown videos — they're all too afraid to potentially put forth an opinion that would prevent them from being where money is. The fact that everyone except Jay-Z and Miranda Lambert is too chickensh-- to speak out against woman-beating is pathetic beyond pathetic. Everyone is too scared to compromise their chance to catch the last remaining dollars during the music industry's death rattle." — Christopher R. Weingarten, SPIN
"Rihanna's 'Birthday Cake' was a standout track from Talk That Talk, even in its original form (as an interlude) — and more importantly, without Chris Brown. On the remix, all Brown's aggressive, salacious verses do ... is add fuel to rumors circling of their reunion behind closed doors. [And] Rihanna comes back on the song, calling checkmate on Breezy with her suggestive lyrics — "Remember how you did it?/ Remember how you fit it?/ If you still want to kiss it, come, come and get it" — making it hard to not be teased into again reading between the lines. 'Turn Up the Music' feels like a collaboration that would have fit both artists' discography during their days coupled up. Although RiRi's airy vocals blend well with the Underdogs' dance soundscapes, adding Rihanna to the track doesn't leave a lasting impression nor elevate the song to higher grounds. Ultimately, it's not the content of the songs that matter; it's the statement both singers are trying to make by simply releasing them. The collaborations appear to be a step toward reconciliation between both — seeing the tracks climb the chart is a bonus. Rihanna wants us to know that she no longer wears the shoes of the victim and Breezy wants to prove that he's become a better man. This isn't a personal or professional move; it's both. Both singers have woven their personal life, a haunting moment in their lives, into a professional move.
