Impact boosts focus on MICE market - The Nation

The Nation February 25, 2013 1:00 am

"As Thailand's major MICE player and venue provider, we commit ourselves to the ongoing improvement of our services and facilities to an international standard. This assures local and international business partners that Thailand is capable of being the host country for major MICE events with Impact as the leading venue partner," Loy Joon How, general manager of Impact Exhibition Management Co, said last week.

Moving towards its vision to rank among the top five venues in Asia, Impact has been focusing on developing synergy among its businesses, upgrading operations, enhancing service quality and investing in state-of-the-art facilities to attract the international MICE market.

The upcoming Asean Economic Community will provide opportunities for Thailand especially for overseas trade shows and exhibition organisers that target the Cambodia, Laos, Myanmar and Vietnam market due to its strategic location as well as logistics and supporting facilities.

"We can cater for the complete needs of functions ranging from 100 to over 30,000 delegates," he said.

Impact Muang Thong Thani offers the largest exhibition space in the country with over 140,000 square metres of indoor space in four main buildings - Impact Challenger, Impact Exhibition Centre, Impact Arena and Impact Forum.

These facilities serve over 800 events a year including trade and consumer exhibitions and attract 15 million visitors yearly.

The Rotary International Convention, Thailand International Motor Expo, Bangkok Gems and Jewellery Fair, THAIFEX-World of Food Asia, Herbalife Extravaganza, Amway Expo and ITU Telecom Asia are just a few of the major events attracted to Thailand.

The venue has recently spent US$27 million (Bt8071 million) to add 30 meeting rooms, bringing the total of breakout rooms to 52 across Impact. Two banquet halls have been opened with 5,710sqm to serve all kinds of functions in addition to the 3,500sqm Royal Jubilee and 2,000sqm Grand Diamond ballrooms.

In two years, facilities and support services to be completed include the Ibis hotel, which will add 600 rooms to the existing 380 ultra-modern rooms at the Novotel Bangkok Impact, a 2,000-seat auditorium, renovation of Impact Arena with more shops and renovation of the eight multipurpose halls at Impact Exhibition Centre.

"Impact is the country's first MICE venue, which was certified as international standard. It has successfully achieved ISO22000 for food safety management, ISO50001 for energy management and TIS22300 for MICE security management. The achievement enhances Impact's confidence and builds trust with business partners," he said.

This year Impact projects its revenue to rise 10 per cent to $67 million. The company aims to lift its international profile in order to tap the growth of the international MICE business, which is anticipated to generate 792,000 arrivals and $2.1-billion revenue this year.
